Also known as the performance variant of the Impreza, the upcoming 2018 Subaru WRX is one of the most awaited models, especially among those who are fans of rally cars. Without a doubt, improvements are urgently needed with the WRX as well as WRX STI, whether they are for the materials quality for interior and comfort, regardless of how fun-to-drive the cars are. As you may have noticed, the ceiling is made of wet cardboard! Well, we don’t ask too much for a new and better material for this surface, right?
2018 Subaru WRX Interior
Reportedly, the 2018 version of Subaru WRX has tweaked its interior. Each model will receive nicer interior models, a remote trunk opening, and refreshed door grips. The door glass is also to be thicker with better seals to help reduce cabin noise. Mounted to the dash is a multifunction display in larger size, up from 4.3 inches to 5.9. Opt for the Subaru WTX Premium for the new 7.0-inch infotainment screen, which enhances from the previous 6.2-inch unit. Design updates are also made for the exterior, featuring updated front fascia, new headlights, and availability of roof rack mounting brackets for all models.
2018 Subaru WRX Engine
What about the engine? Well, for the upcoming Subaru WRX, the base models will still pack the same 2.0L flat-four engine producing 268 horsepower. This engine is paired to an all-wheel drive configuration along with either a 6-speed manual or a CVY. The manual offers an improved shifter feel featuring a new synchro design. Both the electric power steering and suspension have been tweaked.
Opt for the 2018 Subaru WRX Premium trim to enjoy the new Performance Package. This offers the new additions of the 8-way power Recaro seats, newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, and red brake calipers with improved brake pads. The moonroof is removed to save weight. Meanwhile, the Subaru WRX STI is still powered by the same 2.5L H4 good for 305 horsepower just like the 2017 model year offered. The same upgrades are also done for the WRX STI’s suspension, although its all-wheel drive system features the entirely electronic limited-slip center differential. Only a 6-speed manual is offered to pair the engine.
2018 Subaru WRX Price
Referring to the 2017 model year, the MSRP started from around $27,000 for the Subaru WRX and $36,000 for the WRX STI. Since there’s still no official statement made by the company regarding the 2018 model of Subaru WRX, we can expect that the starting price will be around those figures. The release date is also unknown, although we can easily predict that this rally car lineup will not arrive to the market later than the end of 2017. However, it’s reportedly that the cars will lad at dealerships as soon as this spring.
Without a doubt, Subaru has added several important upgrades for the upcoming WRX and WRX STI lineup. Even so, those apparently are not enough to make this lineup stand out among the rest, regardless of how fun its driving nature is. Well, all we can do now is waiting to see how the new 2018 Subaru WRX will perform in this segment!
